It has been five very long months since we have been able to have an outing together due to the COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions here in Victoria. Yesterday saw 31 Members and friends attend the outing at the State Rose Garden.

As we round out our year of isolation we also come to the last round of competition for the year. In this competition the images were about people. Set before the pandemic hit and long before we were all locked away in our homes, I'm sure finding images for this competition was a challenge for all; which is no doubt why we saw a reduction in our usual numbers of entries.
We are grateful to our members who have stuck with us throughout the past six rounds of competition, particularly those since we had to remove prints from contention due to social distancing rules. I remain ever-impressed with the work from our members and love that you continue to share it with us all.
Our judge for the evening was Rob Sloane. He was not present for the reading of his comments, we are grateful for his time in reviewing our images and providing his feedback.
The judging for our 5th competition "Open" & "Movement" was again held via Zoom. There was a time we thought we'd be back in our club rooms by now, COVID-19… it just keep coming at us. We are grateful to our members who continue to stick with us during this time and enjoy seeing your work.
Our judge, Paul Robinson sent us written commentary ahead of time and Paul's words were delivered by Tania. Paul was a very generous judge, offering extensive critique and citing relevant references for other photographers our makers may choose to investigate.
Our Happy Hour meetings started as a way for us to remain in contact during the COVID lockdown, thanks to many awesome members we've been treated to a few presentations from our fellow members who are willing to share their learned skills with the rest of us.
This week, David Male shared his journey in Focus Stacking his macro photographs, he has also provided us with detailed notes about his process.
Greg Cromie was awesome, his work is quite the inspiration for us to plan our next trip as Greg himself is doing. Our current state of lockdown while the world battles the COVID-19 virus makes it seem like we may never travel again. And as Greg pointed out, in reality, it may well be a year or two at least before we see life return to any sort of pre-COVID normal.
The judging for our 4th competition "Open" & "Autumn" was held via Zoom. Our judge, Rob Morgan, joined us to share his thoughts on our images. Note, only digital images are being judged due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
I've been loving the work of Albert Dros I came across on Flickr. Amazingly beautiful landscapes. Check them out on his Flickr Photostream.
The judging for our 3rd competition "Open" & "Blue" was held via Zoom. Our judge, Adrian Smith, provided comments that Tania, our Competition Steward, read while we displayed the images. Note, only digital images are being judged due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
If you missed the Zoom meeting, you also missed our discussion as a group where we talked about some of the images that stood out or those we thought maybe had been misinterpreted by the judge. We've kind of agreed that we might like to do this going forward.
Can you believe it! On Sunday May 31 we had our first outing in what seems like forever and we took it back to an old favourite: Mount Macedon and its fungi.
Around 20 of us met up at Days Camp Ground, Lions Head Road, Mount Macedon. Breaking into a couple of groups to ensure we maintained the correct social distancing; as required because of this crazy pandemic that currently grips the world. We were all grateful to be out of our homes and seeing each other in person once more.
Thanks to everyone who came to our meeting tonight, we had about 41 people at the peak.
Imran's talk was quite enjoyable as he regaled us with his adventures in photography.
We will take a look at the art of Infrared Photography and the equipment used to make such beautiful imagery.
Entries due for VAPS Competition subject is open - Prints and Digital images accepted
