Art In Pulic Places Launch 2014

On Wednesday, March 26, 2014, Hobsons Bay Council held the official launch of Art In Public at Scienceworks in Spotswood. Our club was invited to be the official photographer for the event.

There was a string quartet playing in the planetarium entrance, welcoming the guests. The guests then made their way down the to the pumping station where the night's events were held.

Speeches were made by the Mayor, Councillor Sandra Wilson, and Deputy Mayor, Councillor Colleen Gates. There was also a body percussion performance by Grace Vanilau, and a showing of the Projector Bike.

It seems the night was over as soon as it began. Graeme Brown, Cathy Buchanan, Trevor Davis, Lisa Sandy, Andrea Sparks and I brought our cameras along and captured the event in its entirety. The gallery below shows a small selection of these photos.

100 Years of the RAAF at Point Cook

On the weekend of the 1st & 2nd of March, 2014, Australia saw 100 years of aviation history in all its glory at the Point Cook RAAF Base's 100th Anniversary Air Show.

The air field at Point Cook has the distinction of being the first base of operations for Australia's Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and is, by all reports, the oldest continuing air strip.

Now largely a training base the air base still sees plenty of flights in and out. You'll often find plane enthusiasts at the Point Cook Coastal Park watching the smaller planes take off on their training runs. But none quite as impressive as those on display during the weekend's air show.

Williamstown Camera Club Members, David Male and Phil Taylor, went along to capture the action. This being David's first time photographing planes at speeds up to mach 1, it would seem he thoroughly enjoyed the experience and shares with us some amazing photos from the day.

Flight of the Year

Member David Male has sent us an amazing series of images taken while he and his wife saw in the New Year aboard a flight over Antarctica.

A beautiful landscape to capture, David has done a marvellous job from the seat of an aircraft. We'll have to get him to tell us more about his adventure when we next see him in person.

A Day for the Walking Dead

<

p>Saturday was a fine day, the sun was shining and the city was bustling with shoppers. I imagine some were getting their Christmas shopping done early, there's only 71 days to go. Others were having coffee and socialising with friends, all seemed oblivious to the calamity that was to befall them, most going about, not knowing the trouble brewing it Fitzroy Gardens. The following is not for those with weak stomachs...

p>Thankfully the export module of Lightroom hasn't seen much of a change since the first version, so while these instructions were made in Lightroom 5 they should be accurate, or close to, all other versions of Lightroom.

Tarra Bulga Weekend Away

Our weekends away always seem too brief, but we pack a bit in and we make some great photos. Read my report about the weekend. I could have written pages more about the leeches, my not sleeping at all on Saturday night, we glorious wildlife (other than the leeches) and what an awesome time it was. If you've never been to one of our weekends away, I encourage you to come along to our next one. They are a great way to get to know our members, to learn and grow as a photographer. You won't be disappointed and my story here, doesn't do it justice.
