Port Fairy Weekend 2023

Port Fairy Weekend 2023 © Matt Peart

Our first Camera Club weekend for 2023 was to Port Fairy. Nineteen members and families headed down the highway looking forward to an interesting programme ranging from sunrises, exploring the town and walking out to the lighthouse on Griffiths Island as well as exploring the area.

Those who were interested, headed to the car park at Griffiths Island after dinner on Friday night to do some light painting.

On Sunday night, four Members attended Gill Fry's Night Photography workshop which had to be amended because of the cloudy and freezing weather. The rest of us were supposed to go to another location to do some lighting painting of some old chimneys and old shearing shed but the weather prevented us doing it.

We met up both Friday and Saturday night at the local hotel, sharing our images and stories over dinner. Some of the many cafes were patronised as well for breakfast and lunch.

The programme ended Sunday morning after a visit to Tower Hill where Members experienced some of the walks with sightings of fungi and fauna

A great weekend was had by all.

Notes about the weekend from Matt Peart

19 members arrived by Friday night to meet up at the “Star of the West” hotel for a generous pub meal.

After dinner most of us head out for a bit of light painting at Griffiths Island, with light wands made by Ian Goffton. This was a very successful evening, an everyone had fun participating.

Unfortunately Saturday and Sunday saw both sunrises and sunsets hampered somewhat by inclement weather. Members participated, but not much on show.

Over the course of the weekend the group visited local attractions such as:  Tower Hill (An extinct volcano), Hopkins FallsThe CragsGriffiths Island (lovely little lighthouse with a short walk), Lake Yambuk and Port Fairy surrounds.
