Mt Macedon Fungi Hunt 2020

Can you believe it! On Sunday May 31 we had our first outing in what seems like forever and we took it back to an old favourite: Mount Macedon and its fungi.

Around 20 of us met up at Days Camp Ground, Lions Head Road, Mount Macedon. Breaking into a couple of groups to ensure we maintained the correct social distancing; as required because of this crazy pandemic that currently grips the world. We were all grateful to be out of our homes and seeing each other in person once more.

We received a few pointers from Phil Donaldson on how to best find and capture our subjects on the trees and below our feet before we spread out to hunt our quarry.

The forests in the area have their own micro-environments. It was incredibly cold. Fog contained us and reduced visibility. When at times it felt like it was raining, I realised it was just the moisture falling from the leaves of the trees as the wind passed through them.

From our members we saw crouching and body positions a true yogi would find hard to perform, resulting in some impressive images.

Thanks to Gayle for organising our day and to all the members who came along it, and have shared their images with us here.
